Graffiti Nail Art

Posted by Starlett Approved at 2:50 PM 0 comments
HI!!!! I know, it's been AGES.  Sorry about the hiatus. Micah got sick then I got sick and it just threw off my mojo.  I'm getting it back, little by little :).  My birthday was 2 weeks ago and I couldn't celebrate without doing my nails.  That would've been just blasphemous.

I wanted something bright and fun to help me out of my little funk. These definitely did the trick.  I wuv how these came out.  Super easy to do and now I want ALL of the Formula X for Sephora glitters.  Just look at TNT! Ugh so gorge-balls.

To get this look I randomly sponged Revlon Black Magic over my Revlon Spirit.  Followed by one healthy coat each of Formula X TNT and Mind Blowing.  For an extra pop of color I used neon pink square studs I got from Born Pretty.

I just want to apologize again for vanishing.  Winter does things to me lol. I hibernate and it's inexcusable haha. I'll see you next week with a St. Patricks Day post.

Thanks for stopping by!

Winter Wonderland

Posted by Starlett Approved at 3:49 PM 0 comments
Hola Senoritas, What's up?  Did any of you see Frozen yet?  The fam and I went to see it Wednesday and ermagerd it's so amazing!  I'm completely obsessed with it, everyone should see it. It needs to hurry up and come out on Blu-Ray so I can watch it EVERYDAY haha. By complete coincidence my nails for today's post matched the wintery wonder of the movie.
I just love this time of year.  The colder weather, snow (if we ever get any in New York), cozy time with a cup of hot chocolate, the holidays, scarves and sweaters.  I just had to put that winter love into a nail design.
I really love how these came out.  It looks exactly as I thought in my head (that is not always the case lol).  Is it weird that my favorite design is the thumb? Lol, I can be so boring.  I wanted to do matte white polka dots on naked nails since I saw it on Marie of Pretty Project.

Which is your favorite nail? The snowy gradient, the snowflakes or the snowballs? :-D

Polishes Used:
Revlon Spirit

Hey There Loves!!

Posted by Starlett Approved at 12:59 PM 0 comments
Hey there loves, it's been a long a#$ time.  Damn, that was some blogging break lol, but definitely needed.  During that time I focused on fitness, my healthy hair journey, skincare and of course my family :-) I've been missing this and all of you <3.  So starting today I will try to have at least one post for you a week,  every Friday.  Oh wait, it is Friday...let's get down to the good stuff.  I got some nail art for ya!
Today I have for you a sort of gothic cross pattern mani.  It's such a simple design but I love it so much.  I'm also LOVING the texture polish trend.  It's a really cool accent to any mani.  As a naturalista, we're not friends lol.  Finger detangling SUCKS with texture polish.  I have to take it off on wash days.

Polishes Used:
Sinful Colors Go Go Girl
Revlon Black Magic
Sinful Colors This Is It
Sephora by OPI I Found A Pot Of Gold
Sally Hansen Lick-O-Rich

I'm really excited to be back!!  Look out for more nails, beauty and even hair posts ;-)
See Ya Soon

Then and Now Week 4

Posted by Starlett Approved at 11:23 AM 8 comments
Hi loves!
Yes I know I've been gone FOREVER.  I'm sorry I disappeared.  Life and the holidays took a hold of me.  It left me with little energy and motivation to do my own nails.  Yesterday I was bit by the inspiration bug and finally did nail art.  So today I have for you my 4th installment of the Then and Now Challenge.
I loved my original design, it was inspired by Hey Nice Nails! They are the reason I fell in love with negative space nail art.  It's so minimalist and modern.  Just super cool to me :).
This time around I didn't choose a design that I could improve on, just do differently.  I was having a hard time figuring out how to change it up.  Then a rainbow graffiti style tape mani came to me all thanks to my dear dear friend, my boo Alexandra aka Algae Veronica
These were very easy to do.  All you need is tape, I used French manicure tape, a makeup sponge and of course the nail colors of your choice.  To help the colors stand out I used a white base before I started sponging on the colors.

I'm going to try to not vanish on you guys again :). Have a great last weekend of 2012!!!

What I Used:

  • Sally Hansen Jewel Overcoat Multi-Faceted
  • Milani White On The Spot
  • Milani Fast Fuchsia
  • Milani Dude Blue
  • Milani Violet Dash
  • Milani Yellow Whiz
  • Milani Black Swift

Candy Cane Print

Posted by Starlett Approved at 11:43 AM 1 comments
Hey lovelies, how's everyone doing today?  Wow, I can't believe it's already December and the holidays are here. To help get me into the spirit of things, I decided to do Christmas nails this week.
I was in the mood to do candy cane nails but I didn't want to just do stripes.  So I talked myself into doing candy cane print instead.  They were much easier to do than I imagined.
I was holding my breath a lot during this manicure haha.  I painted my right hand first and realized covering up any mistakes with the glitter wasn't going to work :/.  But  any other base color should be easy.
Originally for the other nails I was going to do glitter placement stripes.  Then at the last moment I decided on a frosty glitter fade with glitter dots.  I love how these came out and I do not look forward to removing them so soon for the Then and Now challenge :(.  I definitely plan on doing more holiday nails.

If you have any suggestions let me know.  I would love to hear from you ;)

What I Used:
  • China Glaze Glistening Snow
  • Wet n Wild French White Creme
  • Wet n Wild Red Red
  • Wet n Wild coloricon mini Red Glitter

Then & Now Week 2

Posted by Starlett Approved at 1:17 PM 4 comments
Hey peeps, today I have my second installment of the Then & Now challenge.  I got more rainbow and animal print for you.  I sort of love rainbow and animal print hehe!
I loved the original design, you can see its post here and here on tumblr.  I remember I did these right before Hurricane Irene hit NYC last year.  It's also one of Mr. Starlett Approved's  favorite designs of all time.  He's been waiting for this day a long time haha.
For my first try to get the gradient I just painted each polish in thick stripes and overlapped the colors on my nails.  I used Sally Hansen Hot Yellow, Milani Tropical Fiesta and Milani Breezy.  I used one of those Sally Hansen nail art pens for the leopard print.
This time around I figured out the best way for me to do gradients.  I started with 2 coats of Milani  Yellow Whiz.  Then directly on a makeup sponge I painted vertical lines with Yellow Whiz, Milani Fast Fuchsia and Brucci Gianna's "Rockin" Blue, overlapping just a bit.  I did that about 3 times for each nail and it came out great and didn't take forever.  I like when designs don't take forever :) I used my Cina Black Nail Art Pen for the leopard print.
On the accent nails I used 2 coats of Floss Gloss Dimepiece for the base.  Oh gerd I LOVE it, it's so sparkly!  The formula was thick and coarse, which I don't mind.  That's what makes it so sexy and glittery and I only needed 2 coats for full coverage.  It's just packed to the max with glitter.  Which means I needed 2 coats of Seche Vite to smooth it out.
On top of that, as you can see in this photo, I painted multi-colored leopard print using Yellow Whiz, Fast Fuchsia and GRB.  I was originally going to leave it like this.  Then later on I added the larger black leopard print.  I was worried it would be too much but it's perfect to me.

Have any of you joined in on the challenge?  If so definitely let me know ;)

What I Used:
  • Milani Yellow Whiz
  • Milani Fast Fuchsia
  • Brucci Gianna's "Rockin" Blue
  • Floss Gloss Dimepiece
  • Cina Black Nail Art Pen

Nails Inc. The After Party (Swatch/Review)

Posted by Starlett Approved at 3:26 PM 0 comments
Salutations Loves!  It's Election Day and I hope you plan on voting if you haven't already.  Gotta practice our civil rights.  I will be voting later with the whole family after Mr. Starlett Approved gets home from work.  For now I bring you nails.
Swatches of Nails Inc.  The After Party set as well as a simple nail design.  The After Party is available at Sephora for $25.  It includes full size bottles of Disco Lane,  Soho Street and Covent Garden Market.  Lets start in that order...shall we?
Disco Lane is actually why I got this set.  I have nothing like it in my collection and I'm weak for holographic glitter.  Thrown into my favorite color black...I DIE!  Look at all the tiny sparkles.  The glitter does settle on the bottom a little so you have to give it a good shake before using it.  Very smooth formula, full coverage in 2 coats.  It dries matte and has a coarse texture.  For this swatch I used 2 coats of Seche Vite to get the perfect shine.
Next up is Soho Street. The Party Glitter!
The title, very appropriate!  It seriously looks like a party on my fingertips.  This is 1 coat of Soho Street over Sally Hansen Pacific Blue.  This baby is jam-packed with silver, gold, red, blue, green and violet medium hex and small round glitters.  You can easily get full coverage in 2-3 coats.  The glitters are so shiny and reflective my nubs look like tiny disco balls :)
Last but not least Covent Garden Market.
This is officially my favorite red glitter nail polish.  It's that perfect Jessica Rabbit red.  My nubs feel very va va voom with this on.  Good formula, smooth application but a bit thick.  Full coverage in just 2 coats.  A thirsty glitter, it dried matte and I needed 2 coats of Seche Vite for optimal shine and sparkle.
Overall, I love all of these and plan on wearing them often during the holiday season.  I actually started from Halloween :).
My costume color scheme, as you already know was black and red.  So I threw on some red blood drips using Sinful Colors Sugar Sugar over Disco Lane.

Any Holiday Collections/Sets you're looking forward to getting?  I still have my eyes on China Glaze Holiday Joy and some the the Orly Naughty or Nice.

Thanks For Stopping By! Don't forget to get your Vote On!!

Negative Space Tape Manicure with Studs

Posted by Starlett Approved at 3:46 PM 5 comments
Hi everyone! I decided to play with my striping tape again.  I wanted to try to do more with it.  Rather than being my lazy self and doing just 3 stripes which I've already done...twice :) Tape manicures are tedious and that's a bit of a deterrent for me.  All the cutting and placing and waiting for nail polish to dry, I get tired just thinking about it.  While doing dishes I had an idea that would cut out the long nail polish drying wait time...NEGATIVE SPACE!!!
I still did a base coat and that dries in no time at all.   Check it, I made patterns with the striping tape rather than just stripes WOOT WOOT. I actually didn't go crazy and wanted to give up while doing these.  That always happens when I decide to work with tape. Mostly because I'm worried something is going to get messed up.
I figured out how to make tape manicures work for me.  I literally work on one nail at a time.  Not moving on to the next nail until the previous one has top coat on and is dry.  It's not very time efficient but it gives me a piece of mind.
The studs weren't actually a part of the original plan.  I didn't add them on until after I uploaded pictures of my nails on my laptop.   Looking at in photographs I felt like it was missing something.
Does that ever happen to you?  You finish your nails, love it and then after looking at it on a computer screen feel the need to add more  Are you a tape manicure girl?  Striping tape or Scotch tape.

31 Day Challenge 2.0 Day 31

Posted by Starlett Approved at 5:43 PM 4 comments
It took forever but I finally made it.  Day 31 of the challenge is here, yay.  Sad to see the challenge end but so happy it's over.  Todays theme was to recreate your favorite nail art, I assume from another nail artist.  I honestly couldn't think of anything.  There are a lot of designs I love from so many nail artists.  I just wasn't in the mental state to recreate any of it, ya know?  Instead I redid a challenge theme, I went with Day 17: Glitter!
Funny, I did the glitter theme twice last year as well.  What can I say? I'm a Glitter Gal. Sparkles run through my veins hehe.  This base is definitely my favorite glitter of ALL TIME!!
Look at all that holo goodness :D.  This is actually a franken, one that you can definitely do yourself.  I got the idea from @adri_doll on Instagram.  She mixed the Wet n Wild Confetti Glitz, that just came out for Halloween, into a bottle of clear nail polish.  It's so packed full of glittery sexiness I only needed 2 coats, if you add more confetti 1 coat will be good.  It reminds me of Models Own Juicy Jules but I would need at least 3 or 4 thick coats for this much coverage.
On top of the glitter I tried out the Sugar Spun technique.  After seeing my girlies Sarah of Chalkboard Nails and Emmie of Just Tis Ems sugar spun nails I NEEDED to try it out.  I used this tutorial and Emmies tutorial to find out how it's done.  It's a bit tricky and you have to practice a little just to get a feel of it.  It's a lot like water marble.  You need to figure out which polishes work and you need patience ;).
I can't believe my 31 Day Challenge is over! I had so much fun with it.  Yeah I took longer than 31 days but you can't control life and feeling like crap haha.  I'm going to work on a Challenge Summary post, hopefully I'll have that for you tomorrow.  See you soon beautiful!

31 Day Challenge 2.0 Day 25

Posted by Starlett Approved at 10:38 AM 1 comments
First I want to apologize for not posting yesterday, I'm a bad blogger tsk tsk.  I woke up and I wasn't feeling 100% and I had some housework that NEEDED to get done. So by the time I finished my nails it was 8pm :/.  But I did post twice Wednesday that makes up for it, right? :(.  Well, here are my Day 25: Inspired by Fashion nails!
I'm your typical girlish girl, I love fashion.  Clothes, makeup, jewelry, shoes, nail polish, gimme gimme I love it.  Naturally I was looking forward to this challenge.  I hit up TopShop.com and found this beauty.
I had to recreate it!  Especially since I've been trying to weasel a zig zag design into this challenge.  I haven't actually done one before.
Didn't do too bad, if I do say so myself.  I messed up on a nail but it's not too noticeable.  Can you tell which one? Haha
I love the way these came out.  There's nothing better than some glitter, right?  Well except the next day when you need to take it off :/ Why do I hate myself? Lol A huge thank you to the creator of the tin foil glitter removal technique.  I do want to make myself some glue base so I can just peel it off.  Any of you try that out yet?

31 Day Challenge 2.0 Day 17

Posted by Starlett Approved at 5:15 PM 1 comments
What up boos?  It's Monday WOOT WOOT.  You must think something is wrong with me.  Who in their right mind gets excited for Monday?  This girl does on THIS Monday lol.  Why? Because I got the most awesome surprise when I got out of the shower today, TMI?  It's nice to know your girl keeps it fresh and so clean clean haha. I WON A GIVEAWAY!!! Hosted by babes Marie of PrettyProject .  I got myself 2 sexy Floss Gloss polishes headed my way!!!!  The icing on the cupcake...it's GLITTER Day baby!  Glitter makes everything 100 times better :).  That's why for todays challenge I used GLEQUINS.
Oh and greetings from Senorita Right Hand.  I wasn't kidding when I said I loved my tribal nails and didn't want to take them off.  So I didn't and decided to finally put some color on my right hand.  Please excuse the awkward hand poses, Righty isn't use to all this attention :).  How sexy is glequins? It's glitters super hot cousin. Oh Sammy of The Nailasaurus thanks for introducing us.
For todays challenge I did some glitter placement on top of saran wrap nails.  Told you I was going to get my saran wrap on again and use more colors ;).  Inspired by my boo Very Emily I had to do glitter frames along with 2 accent nails with a starburst (as I like to call it) glitter design.
The nail polishes I chose for the base design go so perfectly with the glequins.  The color of the glequins shifts from pink, purple, green and blue.  It's just mesmerizing.  I took Micah to the park and he kicked me a couple of times on the swings because I was so distracted by the pretty glequins haha.  If you're a glitter girl like me you NEED to get some glequins from Born Pretty Store.  Sure you might bump into walls staring at your hands but it's worth it lol.

31 Day Challenge 2.0 Day 6

Posted by Starlett Approved at 1:11 PM 2 comments
Day 6-Violet brought to you by Sinful Colors.  Not for real but completely true.  This may be the first time I've ever done nail art and only used one brand.  Of course not including base and top coat.  While setting up to do my nails I realized all the polishes were Sinful Colors, crazy!  Maybe it's because my selection of violet is pretty slim, and I have a lot of Sinful Colors in my collection. If I have any shades of violet it's gonna be from them.

For these nails I started off with 1 coat of Sinful Colors Fiji.  It's a very pretty super sheer purple with a light holo shimmer.  Followed by 3 coats of Sinful Colors Frenzy, a gorgeous purple and turquoise glitter polish.  So, funny fact I actually used this same glitter polish last year for the same challenge haha See Here.

This manicure came out exactly how I wanted.  Just an insane violet overload.  I've been seeing these multiline nails everywhere lately.  I like them a lot it's a refreshing alternative to basic stripes.  Ideas for Day 12 are brewing as I type :).  I'm having so much more fun with this challenge this time around.  Probably because I'm way better at nails than I was last year :) and my new blog that I love so much!!!!
I love the way these nails came out and I definitely need to get more violet in my collection.  It looks good on me lol.
