Pastel Galaxy & Floral Nail Art

Posted by Starlett Approved at 1:06 PM 0 comments
Hey Dolls, I hope everyone is having a great week thus far.  It's so gloomy in NYC right now.  A perfect day to stay indoors and organize nail decorations, clean, watch Teen Wolf and even do a blog post.  Today I will be talking about nails I posted a few days ago on Instagram and Tumblr. Without the missing stud and minus the filter hehe.
For like forever I've wanted to do pastel galaxy nails and do galaxy drips again.  I'm so happy I finally did it lol. Everyone said the galaxy drip nail looks like an ice cream cone until I tell them what it is lol.  If you want to know how I did it you can check out my post from the first time I did galaxy drips here.
I LOVE floral nails, especially these.  But the next time I do a design like this, I'll try to not do it at 2am lol.  The amount of nail polishes needed alone is what made this design exhausting.  That won't stop me from doing it again...soon hehe.  The only tools I used for the flowers were a small nail art brush and my tiny detail brush, I made from a liquid eyeliner brush.  With the small nail art brush I used a light dotting motions to shape the flowers.  Then with the detail brush I placed lines and dots for depth.

Polishes Used:
  • Models Own Juicy Jules (thumb)
  • O.P.I Save Me (thumb)
  • Revlon Spirit (galaxy & floral)
  • Icing No Name Powder Pink (galaxy)
  • Essie Bikini So Teeny (floral)
  • New York Color Palm On The Beach (floral)
  • New York Color City Sweets Pink (floral)
  • New York Color Lavender Cupcake (galaxy)
  • Sinful Colors New Wave (floral)
  • Sinful Colors Nude (floral)
  • Wet n Wild megalast I Need A Refresh-Mint (floral)
  • Wet n Wild megalast On A Trip (galaxy & floral)
  • Wet n Wild megalast Sugar Coat (gradient & galaxy drip)
  • Sephora by O.P.I What Aura Gonna Wear (gradient, floral & galaxy)
  • Maybelline Peach Petal (floral)
  • Born Pretty Store Studs
For next weeks' post I'm planning on doing a hair post.  I'm finally going to share with all of you my Natural Hair Routine and Favorite Products (at the moment).  Until next time...

Thanks For Stopping By!

31 Day Challenge 2.0 Day 29

It's day 29 babies!! Happy Saturday, I'm feeling good today.  I went to bed early last night finally got some needed extra sleep.  I got my Milani Cosmetics Fall into Beauty prize in the mail this morning.  I finally have everything I need to work on my swatchicles. Uhhh and mama got a new post for you ;) woot woot.
My Katy Perry lyrics introduction was a dead give away of my supernatural choice for this challenge...ALIENS!  These were very inspired by the marvelous Madeline Poole.  I saw her nails for American Apparel on Instagram and saw the answer to my, 'what the hell am I going to do for this dang supernatural challenge?' question.
They're so cute and imperfect lol, my little mean green men/women.  Sometimes painting your own nails can be a real b!|¢# haha.  I just couldn't angle my hand right.  So my aliens are a little wonky but still cute ;) and they glow in the dark!!!
OMG the easiest galaxy/nebulae nails I've ever done.  I only used 5 nail polishes and I love how they came out.  Wanna know what I did?  I started with 2 coats of New York Color Skin Tight Denim, a gorgeous midnight blue.  After I let that dry I used the saran wrap technique on a coat of Wet n Wild Black Creme (WAH!?!).  When that was dry I sponged some Wet n Wild French White Creme and Sinful Colors Why Not, finally topped it off with Wet n Wild Coloricon mini holo glitter.  Simple, easy and I love it!  By using the saran wrap technique on the base color it gave it this realistic depth.  I'm going to do this for all my galaxy nails!

Polishes Used:
  • Glow in the Dark Pumpkin Enamel Slime Green color
  • New York Color Skin Tight Denim
  • Wet n Wild Black Creme
  • Wet n Wild French White Creme
  • Sinful Colors Why Not
  • Wet n Wild coloricon mini Holographic Glitter

31 Day Challenge 2.0 Day 19

It's Galaxy Day Hooray, I love galaxy nails. It's one of the first nail designs I saw online and my jaw dropped.  That may have been the moment I became obsessed with nail art.  I had to learn how to do it myself.  Funny enough my first attempt at it was last year for this challenge.  Wow, I remember thinking they were amazing.  I was so proud of them.  They aren't very sexy haha.  I'm happy to say I've gotten much better at galaxy nails when I did them back in February. Galaxy nails are definitely in the same category as Leopard/Cheetah print, Zebra print, Polka Dots and Stripes.  Everyone does them but no one can not love a sexy galaxy design.  They are just out of this world!!! Pun intended lol.  Of course, you know I had to try to spice up my galaxy nails for todays challenge ;) Warning: this post is a bit picture heavy!

Behold Galaxy Drips!  A product of another nail art dream I had. I need more nail art dreams in my life. Ahhh they came out so awesome.  I love these...like hard.  I actually had a few ideas for todays design but the drips kept calling me.  So happy I listened to myself. These came out exactly as I imagined.
Mr. Starlett Approved says it looks like the galaxy is taking over the nail polish.  I disagree, nail polish is taking over the galaxy.  #NailPolishRulesTheWorld lol at least our world, right?
As difficult as the design may look it was really easy actually.  I started with 2 coats of Brucci Mango Taffy then used the largest ended dotting tool and placed 3 random dots of City Colors Dark Blue on each nail.  Using the brush of the City Colors Dark Blue I made a line from the dots I made to the tip of my nail and then connected the lines at the tip.
Then I went over the drips with L.A. Colors Jewel Tone, a purple and blue glitter.  I let that dry completely before I started sponging.  After it dried only using the very tip of my makeup sponge that I cut into small pieces. I sponged Wet n Wild French White Creme then Sally Hansen Going Green, O.P.I Fly and Wet n Wild On a Trip around the white.  I also sponged on a random spot using Wet n Wild Black Creme on each nail. Finally I added more glitter using New York Color Starry Silver Glitter and some scattered white dots for twinkling stars.  Of course I couldn't stop there.
I had to make it Glow in the Dark :) using Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Luminescent.  Especially because my first galaxy attempt I tried and failed to get it to glow properly and take a photo.  Yes I had some stray sponge marks on my base colors I just went over it using a tiny brush.  Since my base color was a jelly, cleaning up the mistakes wasn't flawless.  I know better for next time though ;).

Polishes Used:
  • Brucci Mango Taffy
  • City Colors Dark Blue
  • L.A. Colors Color Craze Jewel Tone
  • Wet n Wild French White Creme
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Going Green
  • O.P.I Fly
  • Wet n Wild megalast On a Trip
  • Wet n Wild Black Creme
  • New York Color Starry Silver Glitter
  • Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Luminescent
