NYC Halloween 2012 Sweet & Devilish Collection (Swatch/Review & FOTD)

Posted by Starlett Approved at 4:12 PM 6 comments
Happy Halloween Beauties!!!  As all of you know New York was hit by Hurricane Sandy.  Right now everyone is dealing with the aftermath.  Fortunately my family and I are fine.  There was no major damage in our neighborhood.  While stuck indoors I took advantage and did a few swatches and worked on this Halloween post for you guys.  Warning: There is a lot in this post, I hope you're ready for it :)   Let's start with the nail polishes.
First up is Haunted.  It's a black jelly-creme based polish with tiny round gold glitters.  I only used 2 coats and got full coverage. To get the best out of this polish you have to be very generous with the brush.  Between the texture, the sparse glitter and the fast drying of the polish, if you use too little for each coat it's not going to be pretty.
Enchanted is a frost shade polish with tiny round gold  glitters  It's a bit sheer, I only used 2 coats here, another coat would take care of that little VNL.  It's a lot like Haunted when it comes to application.  The finish is a bit streaky and getting an even distribution of the glitter was difficult.
All in all I really like both colors but the fact that they're quick dry makes it hard to get the best out of them, in my opinion.
The other item I picked up from the Sweet & Devilish collection was Tempted, a 2 in 1 Lip Color.  When I bought it I thought it could do this really cool and easy gradient look.  Do a red to black or black to red look.
It worked pretty okay on my arm.
Not so much on my lips.  I wasn't feeling it.  Instead for my lips I did red on top, black on the bottom.  I smacked my lips together and it blended the colors in a pretty cool way.
Close up you can see the black within the red as if it was sponged on. The lip color alone is awesome.  It's shiny on it's own which is perfect because gloss would ruin the blending.
Here is my complete Halloween makeup look, inspired by Tempted.
From a distance the lip color looks like a perfect shade of blood red.
My costume is very simple, I'm going to be a witch ;).  Micah is going to be a pirate he's been practicing his swashbuckling all week lol.

Rainbow Gradient Saran Wrap and Leopard Print

Posted by Starlett Approved at 12:46 PM 4 comments
Hey there <3!! I got some colorful nails to share with all of you today.  Boy o' boy do I lurve them. Let's just get right to them...shall we?
Don't these just take you back to the 90's? Lisa Frank EVERYTHING, reading The Babysitters Club and watching Are You Afraid of the Dark?  Ah nostalgia :)
I really love Saran Wrap manicures.  They're so easy and the effect it creates is awesome.  I did 2 Saran Wrap manis for the 31 Day Challenge 2.0, you can see them HERE and HERE.  Each time I tried experimenting with the technique.  Using more than one color and treating it as a base for a design. This time was no different.
For this design I wanted a rainbow gradient effect.  It was pretty simple to achieve.  All I had to do was overlap the polishes :) It's been awhile since I've done leopard print on my nails.  Which is weird because I LOVE leopard print, it's why I started doing nail art.  I wanted fierce nails :)
Is there a specific technique or design that got you interested in nail art?

What I Used:
  • Wet n Wild French White Creme
  • Milani Breezy
  • Milani Tropical Fiesta
  • Sally Hansen Hot Yellow
  • Cina Black Nail Art Pen

Peacock Feather and Pearls

Posted by Starlett Approved at 1:59 PM 5 comments
Hey gorgeous! I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I don't have any "nail art" to share with you today.  Just some really sexy nail polish ;) My very first holographic nail color. *squeal*
This teal beauty is one of the prizes I got from Dany of Danyvianna.  It's actually her very own franken, Peacock Feather.  I put on a coat of Sephora by O.P.I My Personal Serpent as a base color but I didn't need it. Everything about Peacock Feather is dreamy.
It has this perfect thick and smooth consistency.  It felt like creamy butter haha.  Coverage is amazing!  After I was finished I couldn't stop staring at my nails.  While watching tv my gaze kept falling to my finger tips :).  Holographic polishes should come with a warning label.  Extremely mesmerizing you might bump into everything haha.
I added an accent nail of pearls the next day.  I can't do just a solid color no matter how gorgeous it is.  I finally used my Born Pretty Store Pearls. Mr. Starlett Approved said they looked like barnacles on my nail lol I kind of see it too hehe.
Have you ever been bitten by Holo Fever?  What's your favorite holographic nail polish?  I'm really lemming Color Club Halo Hues.  Any nail colors you're yearning for?

What I Used:
  • Danyvianna Peacock Feather
  • Born Pretty Store Baby Pearl Rhinestones

Negative Space Tape Manicure with Studs

Posted by Starlett Approved at 3:46 PM 5 comments
Hi everyone! I decided to play with my striping tape again.  I wanted to try to do more with it.  Rather than being my lazy self and doing just 3 stripes which I've already done...twice :) Tape manicures are tedious and that's a bit of a deterrent for me.  All the cutting and placing and waiting for nail polish to dry, I get tired just thinking about it.  While doing dishes I had an idea that would cut out the long nail polish drying wait time...NEGATIVE SPACE!!!
I still did a base coat and that dries in no time at all.   Check it, I made patterns with the striping tape rather than just stripes WOOT WOOT. I actually didn't go crazy and wanted to give up while doing these.  That always happens when I decide to work with tape. Mostly because I'm worried something is going to get messed up.
I figured out how to make tape manicures work for me.  I literally work on one nail at a time.  Not moving on to the next nail until the previous one has top coat on and is dry.  It's not very time efficient but it gives me a piece of mind.
The studs weren't actually a part of the original plan.  I didn't add them on until after I uploaded pictures of my nails on my laptop.   Looking at in photographs I felt like it was missing something.
Does that ever happen to you?  You finish your nails, love it and then after looking at it on a computer screen feel the need to add more  Are you a tape manicure girl?  Striping tape or Scotch tape.

Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel- Review

Posted by Starlett Approved at 1:06 PM 0 comments
Today I have for you a review of Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel.
This is how they describe it on their website:
This anti-aging product not only diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, but helps complexion problems, balances oil, tones skin, and increases clarity and radiance. Plus, it proves a daily, gentle approach can give superior results vs. a harsh approach. Like exercising daily is better than a long workout once a week, it’s better to treat your skin daily.

Unfortunately I only had one sample so I can't give an in depth review. But it only took one sample for me to love it and want more!!
It is a 2 step system, step 1: Alpha Beta Refining and step 2: Enriched Neutralizing System.  They are pre-soaked pads that you rub on your face and neck after you have washed your face.
After just one use I noticed a difference in my skin.  My skin had a healthy glow.  It felt soft and refreshed.  I actually felt like I didn't need moisturizer, which is amazing.  I definitely want to get some more :)

If you're interested in the product they are available on their website here, $128 for 60 applications.  It is also available at Sephora $78 for 30 applications.
